UE Organized International Webinar on "World Environment Day" and Inauguration of Botanical Gardens

The International Webinar on World Environment Day with the theme of "Ecosystem Restoration" was organized by the University of Education, Division of Science and Technology. Many eminent experts including Prof. Dr. Fahrul Zaman Huyop from University Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru, Malaysia, Dr. Aman Ullah from University of Alberta, Canada, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad and Prof. Dr. Syed Aftab Wajid from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. The Chief Guest of the webinar was Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission, Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid (S.I.) while Vice Chancellor University of Education, Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I.) presided over the webinar.

Addressing the webinar, Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission, Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid (S.I.) said that this year Pakistan has been honored to host the World Environment Day, which is a testament to the fact that Pakistanis’ see the restoration of the ecosystem and the elimination of pollution as an important issue, but given the gravity of the issue, we need to move forward with a concrete strategy. He said that according to various reports, not only wildlife but also human beings are suffering due to environmental pollution, so to raise awareness about the protection of the natural system of the planet and to deal with the problems facing the environment, contemplation of viable methods is a need of the hour. The Clean air, clean water, nutritious food and prevention of natural disasters due to climate change lie in eliminating environmental pollution. At the end, the chief guest congratulated the University of Education, Lahore for organizing this wonderful, purposeful and thoughtful program. Addressing the webinar, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I.) said that on the occasion of World Environment Day, we all have to renew our commitment to protect it, so that we can provide our future generations with the best natural resources including environment and food. We should not rely on governments alone to eliminate environmental pollution and restore this ecosystem because it is the common responsibility of all of us. Instead of cutting down trees, we have to plant them because forests not only protect wildlife but also guarantee a healthy environment.

Expressing their views at the webinar, the experts also presented various proposals for protection of the environment and elimination of pollution. Finally, Director Division of Science and Technology Prof. Dr. Alam Saeed thanked the guests and participants. On this occasion, the university also took an important eco-friendly initiative, according to which a Botanical Garden was inaugurated on the main campus, where the Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission, Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid (S.I.), Vice Chancellor University Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I.), Prof. Dr. Alam Saeed, Prof. Dr. Abrar Hussain, Dr. Zahra Noreen and others were present. More than 76 varieties of plants have been planted in this garden. Moreover, two Botanical Gardens were also inaugurated in Faisalabad and Vehari Campus of University of Education.
