Lahore ( ) The 2 nd International Students Convention 2019 under the auspices of Inter-Universities consortium, University of Education, United Nations Center of Information has been started yesterday. The Convention will continue from 17 to 19 April 2019. The inauguration ceremony was held at Royal Palm Golf Country Club, Lahore, which was attended by the Chairman Prime Minister Task Force on Science & Technology Dr. Ata ur Rehman, the Vice Chancellor, University of Education, Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, the Provincial Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Hamyun, the Vice Chancellors of different universities and other prominent scholars, educationists across the world. While addressing the opening ceremony, the Chief Guest Dr. Ata ur Rehman said that the real wealth of a nation is its human resources without which no country can progress in any field. It is not the natural resource but the human resource which shapes the destiny of the nations. He said we are living in a fast changing world. It is the era of nanotechnology and knowledge-based economy. We have to impart such knowledge to our students which is relevant to the needs of our industry. He said unfortunately most of our exports are low value goods such as textile, whereas we need to export high tech products to compete the world. While making comparison of Pakistan with Singapore, Dr. Ata ur Rehman said our exports are merely 24 billion US Dollar whereas a tiny country Singapore with the total population of 5.5 million has export of 330 billion US Dollar, just because of the reason that our education and economic system are not according to the requirement of today’s rapidly changing world. Dr. Ata ur Rehman emphasized that Pakistan should move towards innovation and knowledge-based economy. While addressing the Convention, the Vice Chancellor, University of Education Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam said that we want to enhance the knowledge and skills of our youth because our youth is our basic asset. The main purpose of having this Convention is to prepare our students to build a beautiful future based on harmony, tolerance and much needed peace. In his speech, the Provincial Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Hamyun said the basic reason of the decline of Muslim world is lack of scientific knowledge. The National Coordinator of Inter-Universities consortium Murtaza Noor said more than 75 universities are participating in this 3 days International Convention.
