Introduction:

Dr. Bushra is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Education. She holds a PhD in Language and Communication Studies from the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom, which she completed on a fully funded international scholarship. Her academic background reflects rigorous international training in linguistics, sociolinguistics, and applied language studies.

Her research interests lie in sociolinguistics, language attitudes (including explicit and implicit attitudinal measures), ethnolinguistic vitality assessment of languages, language planning and policy, language revitalization, second language acquisition, bilingualism, multilingualism, and first language acquisition. Her work focuses on understanding how social, cognitive, and institutional factors influence language use, maintenance, shift, and acquisition in multilingual societies.

Dr. Bushra is actively involved in teaching and research supervision at PhD, MPhil, and BS levels. At the doctoral and postgraduate levels, she teaches and supervises research in sociolinguistics, language attitudes, language planning and policy, bilingualism and multilingualism, and second language acquisition, with a strong emphasis on research design, quantitative and qualitative methods, and theory-driven analysis. She also supervises MPhil and PhD theses in areas related to language, society, and acquisition.

At the undergraduate (BS) level, she teaches core and elective courses including sociolinguistics, second language acquisition, bilingualism and multilingualism, and introductory courses in linguistics and applied linguistics. Through her teaching, she aims to develop students’ analytical skills, theoretical understanding, and research orientation, while fostering critical engagement with language issues in local and global contexts.
