Doctor of Philosophy in Economics

Objectives

The objectives of the PhD in Economics are:

  • to learn research methods ranging from quantitative and deductive methods to qualitative and inductive methods.
  • to master the students in theories that underpin their dissertation research, usually drawn from the social sciences or humanities, with the depth needed to produce advanced, theoretically informed research.
  • to build the capability of problem identification and conceptualization skills to focus on realistic and relevant research problems.
  • to prepare for an appropriate level of communication skills to effectively disseminate research and technical information, including the practical implications of research analyses.
  • to understand the fundamental principles and models of modern economics in depth, and be able to apply them to economic and social issues.
  • to prepare the students for employment in academic and/or non-academic institutions at national and international levels.

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum CGPA 3.0 out of 4.0 in the semester system or first division in the annual system in MPhil/MS/Equivalent degree (economics) is required to be eligible for admission in PhD program.
  • The potential applicant will submit the application accompanied with a concept paper/research proposal that he/she intends to undertake, to the admission office of the relevant division/campus. He/she may also be required to justify the concept paper/ research proposal before the PhD Admission Committee at the time of interview.
  • The applicants shall be required to take Subject Based Entry Test and secure minimum score as per HEC requirements to become eligible for admission in PhD program.
